How to Be Good in Specialty Coffee
Nashville's Good Citizen, BrewSleepDraw's Multi-winner Giveaway
Fun fact. Did you know that Tennessee's official nickname is The Volunteer State?
As it happens, the state earned this saintly moniker after sending thousands of volunteer soldiers during the War of 1812. And consequently, the state's citizens have sometimes been referred to as "Volunteers."
This bit of socio-cultural history helps to properly frame our featured roaster Good Citizen Coffee Co. A roastery based in Nashville and founded by Sean Stewart whose vision for specialty coffee is fundamentally rooted in the idea of community service.
The company was originally founded as Stay Golden Coffee back in 2017. But after a trip to Costa Rica just two years later, Sean decided to change the company's name and mission upon tasting the first ever harvest of now long-time partner Roble Negro at Finca Cedral Alto; a farm owned by Jorge Vasquéz Ureña.
What set Roble Negro apart was its dedication to biodiversity and regenerative agroforestry. Where the farm would plant large plots of ground cover (squash, pumpkins, etc.) and disperse fruit trees to create a rich landscape around the coffee trees. While also inviting animal populations to thrive in their natural habitats.
In addition to setting a new course for the company, this regenerative framework sparked Good Citizen's Flora & Fauna program which pays 5% on top of the green coffee contract price to give cash to farmers to invest in this type of agriculture themselves.

Sean and his team at Good Citizen are now on a mission to build a robust network of farmers and organizations on the ground to spread these regenerative practices all over the world.
And today we're incredibly honored to support these efforts by offering Good Citizen's washed Colombian La Favorita on our marketplace.
This light roast is truly uplifting 😇
With a balanced body 🏄🏾♀️ and notes of red fruit 🍓 and guava 🍉 that are designed to open up your taste buds to some ecstatic sensations.
It's worth noting that this coffee also comes from Café Granja La Esperanza, a lot that's part of the Community Program which ensures that farmers get paid 25% more than the average. To better support their families and farms.
It's high time to drink the good stuff. And be a good citizen, indeed.
Good Citizen roasts weekly and ships on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

BrewSleepDraw: The Giveaway
Coffee. Meet Punk.
Somewhere in the multiverse, a nuclear fusion between specialty coffee and punk would yield an ingenious creative project entitled BrewSleepDraw. And luckily for us, it's happened on our own turf.
BrewSleepDraw is the brainchild of Paul Contreras, a California-based DIY-maker and artist. Whose love of coffee makes it possible for all of us to now wear this shared passion on our sleeves. Each and everyday.
Via sweatshirts, tote bags, beanies, t-shirts, and more. My favorite: A baseball cap 🧢 emblazoned with the phrase "Sip & Destroy" – a cheeky reference to The Stooges, perhaps?
Today, we're stoked to celebrate BrewSleepDraw's relaunch this month. With a giveaway to seven people in our newsletter community 🔥
One Person will receive a screenprinted Rose Logo Canvas Tote that’s spacious enough to hold all of your goodies
Five People will receive an individual Coffee-themed Sticker made to adorn your laptop or phone case
One Other Person will receive a gorgeous 5x7 Art Print designed to enhance your workspace with some caffeinated vibes
To participate in the drawing, where seven people will be selected at random, enter your name and email in the following Google Form by the end of Sunday, Feb 26.
Winners will be notified on Monday.
