DROP 02: Loveless Coffees
A short (and funny) backstory to today's featured roaster Brooklyn-based Loveless Coffees:
Last weekend, I attended the US Coffee Championships Qualifying Event in Baltimore. And if you don't know me by now, you'll soon learn that my job requires me to approach people every day.
So I did in Baltimore what I usually do: ask people to sign up for this newsletter.
Little did I know that I would end up making the ask to Will Douglas, one of the co-founders of Loveless. Also attending the event in Baltimore. With whom I'd been communicating all week via email, but without knowing what he looks like in person.
Needless to say, we shared a good laugh. Then a ride back to NYC. During which I learned that Will and his co-founder Joe Wieczorek named their company Loveless based on the album of the same name by the 90s shoegaze band My Bloody Valentine.
For better or worse, that is probably the most Brooklyn thing you will hear from anyone today.

For DROP 02 we're pleased to offer Loveless Coffees' new single-origin Don Eli - Miramar at an exclusive 15% discount. Limited to just 30 boxes. And available to our community over a week before its official release.
This washed gesha comes from the Tarrazú region of Costa Rica. And was grown at an altitude of 2000 meters where it's noticeably colder and damper – perfect conditions for dense, complex coffee growing.
With jasmine green tea aromatics 🧚, and flavors of cola 🦄 and stewed peaches 🍑, the Miramar (Spanish for "Sea View") can be described as a floating, sensual tasting experience.
It's sweet, clean, and above all, supremely elegant 💎
Loveless ships on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Meaning that the first box will ship tomorrow if you put in an order today.

Have you wondered lately, what does the future of coffee look like?
Some may answer this question by pointing to rapid advances in technology (self-service espresso machines) or to the increasing demand for ethical practices across the industry (price transparency and fair pay).
However, I’d like to propose a different answer to this question, and it comes in the form of Pure Happiness Coffee.
Operated by NYC-based Brent Michael Cox, Pure Happiness which you can find on Instagram produces daily video content, writing, art, and extended essays on what it means to experience specialty coffee in its myriad forms and pleasures. All of which transport coffee beyond the physical world to the spiritual ether that’s typically occupied by the fine arts.
Pure Happiness is truly unique and marvelous. Even strange at times. And in my humble opinion, this is the true future of coffee and we are heading there right now as we speak.
In December of last year, Brent released his first print zine – “a neo-noir mystery meant to accompany your morning cup” – which sounds perfect for a lazy weekend.
And he’ll soon release a second issue, best described as a visual-poetic meditation on Steve Reich's "Music for 18 Musicians."
